2024-2025 Law School Admissions Cycle Progress

By Nathaniel Ross, Data & Analytics Consultant

Introduction

We are entering a very exciting but anxiety-inducing portion of the law school admissions cycle. If you spend any amount of time on the various forums for law school applicants, it is easy to believe that there are no remaining spaces at top law schools. This is simply not the case. The table below offers a rough estimate of the minimum number of acceptances remaining for the top 100 law schools. As of March 20, 2025, nearly 7,000 acceptance letters are yet to be sent, including almost 2,500 of those letters from top 20 schools.

Methodology & Data Sources

There are many challenges associated with predicting admissions cycles, the first is the availability of reliable data. For this table, I use LSD.law, an aggregator of self-reported data on law school admissions. While imperfect, it does allow us to create minimum estimates for admissions offers remaining, which means there are almost certainly more offers available than what I state here!

Using last year’s number of reported admissions on LSD.law as my benchmark, I calculate how many more admissions offers are likely remaining before a school reaches the same number of offers as last year. This provides applicants with a rough guideline for where schools are in their admissions process, rather than an exact figure of the acceptances remaining.

Limitations & Disclaimers

It’s worth stating again this is based on self-reported data and that data quality decreases as you descend the rankings. This is because a smaller proportion of those school’s applicants utilize LSD.law, which makes predicting cycles more challenging. LSD.law users are also a self-selected group of applicants, which is why I remain conservative in my predictions. These figures also do not include people admitted to schools off the waitlist, so there are even more offers left if you include waitlist movement.

The nature of rolling admissions means no two schools admit students at the same rate. With the unexpected jump in application volume, some schools slowed down their processes, while other schools appear to be admitting more students than in previous years.

How Applicants Can Use This Data

The "Estimated Minimum Offers Remaining" column shows the lowest possible number of acceptances a school still has left to send. The "Percent of Acceptances Remaining" column reflects how many offers are left as a percent of the total projected acceptances. You can use this information to stay informed about how far along each school is in their admissions process.

  • If a school has a low or negative number: They are nearing the end of their direct acceptance admissions cycle, meaning waitlist and rejection decisions may be more common.
  • If a school has a high number of acceptances remaining: They are still making direct acceptance decisions, meaning waitlist movement has likely not begun yet.

Most importantly: Don’t make any decisions based on this data! This is merely a reference point to manage expectations for the thousands of students who are waiting to hear back from schools.

Final Thoughts

March is not the time to lose hope during the law school admissions process. With at least 7,000 offers still to be sent, thousands of applicants will soon be receiving good news. If you haven’t heard back from your top schools yet, remember that admissions is a rolling process, and things can change quickly. Stay patient, stay informed, and stay hopeful!
